We are seeking a passionate and community minded Indigenous Field Mentor to join the APM Employment Services team, within our Australian Apprenticeship Support Service.
This identified role is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, as part of our commitment to improving employment opportunities and outcomes for Indigenous Australians.
As a Field Mentor you will work closely with participants, helping to build confidence, cultural identity and connections to Country. Your lived experience, cultural knowledge and ability to build strong relationships will be central to supporting the program’s success.
Location: The role can be based at any APM office in Victoria
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide regular and ongoing mentorship to apprentices and employers, offering insights, advice, support, and practical and relevant information as required to ensure successful completion and participation of the apprentice.
- Foster positive and collaborative learning environment for both employer and apprentice by establishing open lines of communication.
- Demonstrate a culture of performance, integrity, customer service and compliance.
- Collaborate with apprentices to set and refine professional development goals within their apprenticeship.
- Create strategies for apprentices to maintain motivation, focus and commitment to goals and completion of the apprenticeship.
- Share insights on industry trends to employer and apprentice.
- Address obstacles faced by apprentices and employers, offering guidance on potential solutions and strategies for overcoming difficulties.
- Act as a resource for conflict resolution and provide support during challenging periods.
- Conduct regular check ins and progress contacts of apprentices and employers to identify and concerns or risks.
- Work collaboratively with other stakeholders E.g. employers, educational institutions to ensure a holistic understanding of apprentice development.
Qualifications and Experience
- Understanding of apprenticeship programs and the learning needs of apprentices.
- Ability to adapt mentoring strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Patience and a genuine interest in the professional growth of others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptable and flexible team player
- Previous experience in apprenticeship program management or related role
- Strong and demonstrated mentoring and coaching ability.
