VicRoads is progressing too. In August 2022, we started on a new chapter when the Victorian State Government partnered with Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, and Macquarie Asset Management to operate registration and licensing services on its behalf.


We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.


Annual Salary Range: Up to $160,000 + Super

Employment Type: Ongoing - Full-Time

Usual Work Location: QV 180 Lonsdale Street CBD/ Work from home

Certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional (Recommended)

About the Opportunity

The Cloud Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions, ensuring seamless cloud infrastructure that supports our business's goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, system architecture, and troubleshooting, with a focus on delivering scalable, reliable, and secure cloud environments.


  • Cloud Infrastructure Design & Deployment: design, implement, and managing secure, scalable cloud environments (AWS, Azure), using automation tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline infrastructure provisioning and maintenance.
  • Governance & Continuity Planning: Implement cloud security best practices to ensure compliance and data protection. Monitor and optimize infrastructure performance, troubleshoot issues, and manage cost-efficiency. Design disaster recovery and backup strategies, and recommend improvements based on emerging cloud technologies.
  • Collaboration & Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, operations, security) to integrate cloud solutions with existing systems. Provide technical support for cloud-related issues.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain documentation for cloud architectures, configurations, and processes. Provide regular status reports to management on infrastructure performance and initiatives


Ability and willingness to participate in an out-of-hours roster to support technology changes, as required.

About You

You are dedicated to ensuring data security and privacy, proactively identifying and mitigating risks in your work. You collaborate effectively to prevent fraud and corruption, adhering to policies and promoting a culture of integrity. Your focus is on continuous improvement and security in all aspects of your role.


Key Responsibilities

You will ensure compliance with privacy and data security requirements, work to mitigate fraud and corruption risks, and implement preventive measures. Your role will involve collaborating with teams, reporting issues, and promoting ethical behaviour and security best practices.


Technical Capabilities

You bring hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), cloud infrastructure, automation tools, and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell). You have expertise in cloud networking, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and security, ensuring cloud environments are optimized and secure. Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Azure Monitor) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) is essential.


  • Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), cloud infrastructure, automation tools, and scripting for automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Desirable
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
