The role Underwriter is pivotal to the success of the wider Accident and Health Insurance (AHI) business.

About the Opportunity:

At the core, an underwriter assesses the potential risk of providing insurance cover and the terms and pricing at which the company is willing to accept the risk. At AHI we don’t just insure businesses, we are insuring their most important asset – their people – and look for ways to deliver insurance solutions for our clients across our Accident & Health product suite.


In this role you will analyse and synthesise information, assess risk within the defined underwriting appetite, whilst proactively managing your workload in collaboration with other teams, to deliver outstanding underwriting service to our brokers and clients.

The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, a commitment to excellence in client service, be a team player and have an ability to prioritise to meet deadlines.


Based in Perth CBD and reporting to the Underwriting Services Team Leader, your role will include:

  • Actively underwrite renewals, new business, and endorsements in line with your underwriting authority.
  • Negotiate with brokers to successfully win new business and retain renewals.
  • Service, build and maintain relationships with brokers, as well as other internal teams.
  • Manage day-to-day broker enquiries.
  • Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, correspondence, and justification.
  • Attend networking events and Broker/Industry functions (as and when required).
  • Share knowledge, experience, and expertise to build capability across the team and support continuous learning.
  • Understanding key control issues/risks and escalate through the appropriate channel.


About You:

  • Have strong internal and external stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong time management, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Hold more than 2 years of experience in the insurance industry (Accident and Health market experience is highly desirable)
  • Understanding of FSRA, Privacy Act and General Insurance Code of Practice (GICOP)
