Export Control Specialist

We currently have an opportunity for an Export Controls Specialist in Canberra.
Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
As part of our Technical, Advisory, and Capability practice and Team Downer, we deliver consulting services across the Department of Defence. We collaborate with key Defence entities including Defence Digital Group (DDG), National Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), and branches across the Navy, Army, and Air Force.
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including:
- Ensure full compliance with the SPO Technology Control Plan (TCP)
- Create and maintain a comprehensive schedule of agreements related to export control
- Verify all parties to agreements are current and accurately documented
- Liaise with SSB Project Managers to identify controlled technology and determine appropriate export control release requirements
- Collaborate with International Export Controls (IEC) to ensure alignment with Defence policy and industry best practices
What You’ll Bring
Previous experience ideally within the Defence or consulting service industries and also:
- Extensive knowledge of ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and FMS (Foreign Military Sales) processes
- Demonstrated experience in export control management within defence or aerospace sectors
- Strong understanding of Technology Control Plans and their implementation
- Experience managing complex regulatory compliance requirements
- Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills
Currently hold and maintain a minimum active Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may be necessary.
