What's the role?

Lead the curation of State & Community (S&C) homepage modules and key digital channels. This role is crucial in ensuring our premium journalism reaches the right audiences at the right time - and drives subscriptions, engagement, and impact.

Working within a national distribution team, you’ll collaborate effectively with section editors across health, education, business, food, and national series - and metro digital teams to drive the strongest audience outcome.

You’ll shape a homepage that reflects editorial priorities, breaks news, and responds dynamically to audience behaviour throughout the day.

About The Role

  • The ideal candidate can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Adelaide.
  • Curate and update the homepage, ensuring a balance of breaking news, exclusives, analysis, and reader-first storytelling.
  • Make real-time editorial decisions based on analytics, reader signals, and editorial value.
  • Liaise with section editors, audience teams, and social/search producers to coordinate coverage and surface high-performing or high-impact content.
  • Lead homepage strategy during peak shifts (early morning, evening, or weekend), including breaking news events.
  • Use data and digital tools to inform decisions and optimise content placement.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of digital publishing best practices and experimentation, including A/B headline testing.
  • Ensure content complies with legal and ethical standards and reflects our editorial values.

Who are you?

  • Proven newsroom experience, ideally in a digital publishing or homepage editing role
  • Exceptional news judgment and ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams and disciplines.
  • Comfortable interpreting audience analytics and turning insights into action.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working with CMS and real-time analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with audience funnel concepts and digital subscription strategy.
  • A passion for quality journalism and a reader-first mindset.
