The Role


Due to upcoming workload and major national opportunities, our National Dams and Hydropower business is currently seeking an Associate Engineer - Dams to work closely with our other specialists in the team.


This role can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney where you will be involved in both local and ANZ projects. You will possess a background in dam design with experience across major projects.


With a minimum of 10 years' post graduate experience, your core responsibilities would include:


  • Review of the design process with well-developed experience in dams
  • Development and review of dam risk assessments
  • Leading the team to conduct dam surveillance in accordance with the relevant guidelines
  • Ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and guidelines and the requirements of the client and SMEC
  • Proactively collaborate with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with local clients
  • Assisting with developing proposals and bids for securing new and ongoing work
  • Applying project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard in a timely manner


Suitable applicants will have/be:


  • Bachelors' Degree in Civil Engineering or higher qualifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years' experience in a broad range of dam types
  • Experience in dam risk assessments in accordance with latest ANCOLD Guidelines on Risk Assessment and other relevant guidelines.
  • Proficient in assessment and monitoring of dam instrumentation data
  • Familiar with relevant Australian Standards, ANCOLD guidelines, and state-based dam safety management guidelines and regulations.
  • Be able to lead and mentor small teams to reach desirable project outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
