The Mechanical Electrical Operations Manager will have operational oversight of our long-term maintenance contract with South East Water, responsible for driving innovation, achieving commercial outcomes, and delivering exceptional service. The role provides direction across office and field teams, including Supervisors, Leading Hands, Technicians, and support staff. You will work closely with the Contract Manager to ensure financial and operational success, while fostering a strong safety, performance, and continuous improvement culture


Nature of position: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Dandenong, VIC

Reporting Line: Contract Manager – South East Water


Key Responsibilities:

• Client relationship Management.

• Managerial reporting.

• Provide visionary leadership, setting strategic direction and goals for the water business unit

• Develop and execute business plans, ensuring alignment with company objectives

• Lead and manage a high-performing team of office and field staff, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability

• Drive business growth through strategic partnerships, market development, and customer relationships

• Oversee project management, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of corrective maintenance projects

• Develop and manage budgets, financial plans, and resource allocation

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Commercial, HSE and Asset Optimisation • Networking with key internal and external stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.

• Supporting and advocating positive Health, Safety Environment and quality outcomes.

• Overview of works costing framework.


Leadership & Strategic Delivery

  • Lead the safe, timely, and effective delivery of scheduled maintenance, reactive works, and minor projects across mechanical and electrical assets.
  • Provide visionary leadership, setting clear direction for contract execution and continuous improvement.
  • Promote a high-performance culture focused on safety, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Work with operational leads to scope, quote, plan, and evaluate maintenance activities under the contract.
  • Drive financial performance in collaboration with the Contract Manager, ensuring efficient operations and cost control.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong, productive relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and key client representatives.
  • Ensure all services meet contractual requirements and client expectations.
  • Represent Service Stream in stakeholder forums and key decision-making processes.

People & Resource Management

  • Manage a diverse operational team, supporting workforce planning, resourcing, training, and performance management.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors and Leading Hands to align procurement, scheduling, and resource mobilisation.

Procurement, sub-contractor, supplier and resource management:

  • Work closely with Works Coordinator, Supervisors and Leading Hands to coordinate all aspects relating to procurement, planning and organising resources relevant to maintenance delivery.
  • Oversee purchasing strategies resulting in efficient and cost-effective procurement and purchasing of supplies.
  • Review completed works to find efficiency gains.

Governance, HSEQ & Reporting

  • Champion a safety-first approach, ensuring implementation of the HSE Management Plan and active participation in audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Oversee quality systems, non-conformance processes, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Deliver accurate and timely managerial and financial reporting.

Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in delivering water infrastructure maintenance programs, including mechanical and electrical assets.
  • Background in water and wastewater treatment and networks maintenance is highly regarded.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the water industry
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in large, multi-disciplinary teams.


Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate and/or Engineering Degree (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).
  • Additional business or leadership qualifications (TAFE, university, or industry certifications) advantageous.


Competencies

  • Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to provide on call coverage as a duty manager.
