Lead risk and compliance across national EHS systems for a leading Australian food manufacturer

Join Sugar Australia as a National EHS Manager - Risk and Compliance at our manufacturing site in Yarraville, VIC. This permanent, full-time opportunity is ideal for an experienced safety or environmental professional who thrives in EHS management systems, risk and compliance, continuous improvement, and national stakeholder engagement.

Reporting to the Head of EHS, this role will play a key part in embedding, improving, and aligning our EHS management systems across all Sugar Australia locations. You'll drive national audit and compliance programs, enhance our ISO certification readiness, and guide the development of annual EHS plans and reviews across our sites.

This is a unique opportunity to take a leadership role in improving EHS system maturity, risk and compliance, aligning environmental performance, and supporting long-term licence to operate goals for one of Australia's most iconic FMCG brands.

As this is a national role, travel to our manufacturing sites across Australia will be required from time to time.

The sweet things you'll be involved in:

As the National EHS Manager - Risk and Compliance, you'll work closely with site and functional leaders across our sites to lift capability, embed best practice, and ensure consistency in safety and environmental risk management. You'll coach teams, influence strategy, and support performance improvements across our national operations.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading and facilitating projects for the improvement of Environment, Health and Safety systems and performance across Sugar Australia
  • Ensuring EHS management systems are well communicated, nationally aligned and implemented in all Sugar Australia locations
  • Coordinating and driving the internal audit program, mentoring auditors, and conducting audits across national sites
  • Facilitating activities to enhance environmental compliance and performance improvement, including groundwater monitoring and licence to operate compliance
  • Assisting sites with readiness for ISO certification and implementing system maturity improvements
  • Facilitating EHS Management Reviews and annual EHS planning across all sites
  • Coaching leaders to identify and mitigate operational risks, and providing hands-on coaching to build internal capability
  • Supporting continuous improvement and standardisation of EHS policies, processes and reporting
  • Collaborating closely with the Head of EHS and site-based EHS Managers on EHS initiatives
  • Influencing and contributing to national EHS strategy, program development, and business reporting

What we're wanting you to bring to the table:

You are systems-focused, a great communicator, and passionate about risk management and driving safety and environmental outcomes. You're confident working across varied stakeholder groups and thrive in a role that combines coaching, auditing, systems improvement and national alignment.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Environment or a related discipline
  • Lead Auditor certification in ISO45001/ISO14001 or Internal Auditor certification
  • 5-10 years' experience in EHS roles, ideally within FMCG, manufacturing, or a complex operational environment
  • Expertise or qualifications in environmental management (highly desirable)
  • Incident investigation training (e.g. ICAM) and Cert IV in Training & Assessment (desirable)
  • Strong knowledge of EHS legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Strong background in EHS management systems implementation and auditing
  • Experience supporting or achieving ISO certification readiness across multiple sites
  • Proven ability to engage, influence and coach leaders across multiple teams and locations
  • Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement
