About the Opportunity
Bloodwood Tree Association is looking for a full-time Driving Instructor based in Hedland, WA.
Reporting to the Driver Training Coordinator, you’ll deliver high-impact training and instruction to new learner drivers in the Hedland community, empowering them with the skills, confidence, and independence that come with a driver’s licence.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Instructing learner drivers for C & CA Class licences using dual-control vehicles
- Assisting clients with pre-test practice and preparation
- Conducting driving sessions across the wider Hedland region (Port & South Hedland)
- Updating client files and lesson records with clear and accurate notes
- Participating in monthly supervision sessions with a growth mindset
- Delivering service reports and contributing to community engagement activities
- Liaising with local groups and attending Bloodwood Tree events as required
- Ensuring training vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained
- Supporting outreach activities in surrounding towns, including Tom Price and Newman
Please note: This position is offered on a full-time basis until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension subject to operational requirements.
About You
Whether you're someone looking to enter the field or an experienced driving instructor, this role offers a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the Hedland community.
To be successful, you’ll need:
- A current C-Class Driver’s Licence (held for a minimum of 5 years)
- National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening
- Senior First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Ideally, holding one of the following qualifications will be highly regarded:
- Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Driving Instruction), OR
- Certificate of Completion from the Department of Transport’s accredited instructor course
If you're not yet qualified but passionate about driver education and ready to train, Bloodwood Tree is open to supporting the right candidate under supervision as they work toward certification.
Additionally, the following experience and qualities will be highly regarded:
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Previous driver training or instructional experience
- Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong cultural awareness and ability to engage respectfully across diverse backgrounds
- A supportive, patient and empathetic approach to clients at various confidence and literacy levels
- Willingness to assist with tasks like vehicle cleaning and supporting community events
- Emotional resilience and the ability to maintain boundaries in a mentoring/counselling-style setting
