PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Design Technician role is to act as a key link between design and production, ensuring engineering solutions are effectively translated into practical and manufacturable outcomes. The role supports the delivery of the Hunter Class Frigate Program by addressing production issues with clear design advice and sketches, helping to ensure the final product meets both design intent and production needs.
This position is suitable for individuals at either a Grade 5 or Grade 6 level, depending on skills and experience.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Collaborate with Production Engineering Support engineers to develop practical and effective solutions through accurate issue reports and clear design sketches
- Engage with subject matter experts to gather input on systems and equipment, supporting informed decision-making and detailed outputs
- Deliver engineering recommendations and documentation to the Technical Authority to ensure the as-built product aligns with the original design intent
- Translate system and equipment design intent into manufacturable solutions, incorporating changes as required to support production needs
- Act as a key communication link between Production and the broader business, facilitating the resolution of issues through established management processes
- Relevant trade certification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural) with production experience, or a tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in a related engineering or design discipline
- Strong ability to interpret CAD models, detailed design drawings, and technical documentation, including fabrication and assembly drawings
- Experience in the design of steel and aluminium structures
- Proficiency with common engineering tools such as CAD and PLM software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and customer service
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
