The Opportunity

The Systems Engineer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex engineering work within an integrated workforce. They are also accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The Systems Engineer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the systems engineering function based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake, technical research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessments and perform procedural or operational support work to achieve results.

The Systems Engineer will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve in relation to remediation efforts associated with addressing non-compliances to LMSM Second Edition, Regulation 17.

Responsibilities

  • Providing extensive experience and in-depth working knowledge of defence related T&E frameworks, strategies, DTEM.
  • Applicability and implementation of T&E at various stages of product lifecycle.
  • Understanding and knowledge of how Defence Engineering relates to T&E.
  • Supporting and authoring the development of T&E strategies and artefacts
  • Providing T&E specific professional advice to support the achievement of FAMSPO equipment and systems, in accordance with the applicable governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in the DASR, European Defence Agency requirements or EASA regulation set

Experience & Qualifications

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Systems Engineering, RF Communications, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Science or similar)
  • An understanding and experience of the Capability Life Cycle (CLC).
  • A clear understanding of Configuration Management.
  • Experience with developing and managing Hazard logs and Safety Case Reports.
  • Experience with ASDEFCON deliverables.
  • Experience managing external suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Experience reporting to senior stakeholders (Director level and above)
  • At least 3 years’ experience delivering engineering outcomes in a defence environment.
  • Good knowledge of RF/network/communication engineering architecture.
  • Development of Safety Case and Technical Certification Reports and packages for Capability Manager signature

Desirable

  • Previous ADF tactical communications and/or COMSEC experience
  • Experience with developing and managing Engineering Changes
  • Experience with Previous experience using ERP
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia) who is on the National Engineering Register

All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.
