About The Role And Team

Our Custody and Transport Officers are responsible for the safety, security, and humane custody and transportation of individuals in custody. We manage custodial and transport operations across Justice Services in Northern Territory including Local Court and Watch Houses across the Darwin region. This role encompasses supervision, transportation, court-related duties, medical and bedside escorts, and adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. You will join an evolving team across these growing operations, working under the guidance of Site Supervisors and an Operations Manager supporting all Justice Service delivery across the Northern Territory.

We're looking for strong communicators, who are adaptable to their work environments. You'll be engaging directly with people in custody, so it's crucial that you're comfortable with working in a custodial environment, looking after all individuals in your care.

The role will require shift work providing a variety of different rosters (24/7 and Monday to Friday) with a mix of different shift lengths (8-hr to 12-hr shifts).

More Specifically You'll Be Responsible For

  • Transportation: Safely transporting people in custody to designated locations such as courts, medical appointments, hospitals, and custody centres.
  • Court Custody: Court cell management, escorting people in custody to and from courtrooms, and managing the custody of individuals awaiting court appearances.
  • Bed Sits: Continuous security monitoring and observation, risk mitigation, reporting, and ensuring patient welfare within a public health setting.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Preparing quality written reports relating to prisoner information, prisoner assessments, incidents, and transport logs - ensuring documentation complies with legal requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • You hold a full and current Australian driver's licence
  • Be eligible to work full time in Australia, with no restrictions
  • Availability to work either a Monday to Friday, or 24/7 roster

  • Phone call with a member of the Talent Acquisition team
  • Attending an onsite interview in Darwin with 2 members of the G4S team
