Your New Role

The Assistant Accountant position supports the Financial Accountant to provide all financial accounting services for SHM and its subsidiaries. The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting the finance team and ensuring smooth operation of the financial functions.

The Assistant Accountant will assist in the preparation of the end of month and end of year financial processes and support the finance team to deliver high quality financial accounting services to achieve SHM’s strategic goals.

This is a full-time position with an income and cash reconciliation focus. The Assistant Accountant is a critical role, maintaining the receipt and allocation of income across the business for effective on-going budget management.

Your Day-To-Day

  • Assist in the month end process including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals and allocations across all SHM entities.
  • Reconciliation of the cash receipts for Op Shops including EFT and cash, ensuring cash is accounted for correctly, recording and investigating variances.
  • Allocation of Government Funding to the correct program, aligned to the budget.
  • Maintaining and reconciling customer accounts in Business Central and Turnpoint, including processing client invoices, preparation of customer statements and accurate matching of income receipts in customer accounts.
  • Maintain Flexipurchase credit card system, including providing support to teams, import of transactions and reconciliation of the credit card account.
  • Actively promote and encourage process improvement to increase efficiency in the team.

Essentials for Success

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field. (Desirable, progression toward CPA or CA or interest in pursuing this qualification).
  • Background in transactional finance with demonstrated experience in Bank Reconciliation, Accounts Payable and Receivable and the effective maintenance of these ledgers.
  • Demonstrated experience in month end processes, balance sheet reconciliations and income allocations.
  • Strong commitment to building effective relationships with customers/suppliers and internal stakeholders, and ability to work harmoniously with a team environment, promoting a team approach to all that we do.
  • Desirable - Experience in Aged Care, Op Shop Cash Reconciliation and the use of Microsoft Business Central 365.

You Can Look Forward To

  • $78,500 to $83,000 p.a (Depending on experience and qualification) + plus superannuation and 17.5% leave loading.
  • Salary packaging expenses like your rent, holiday accommodation and dining out: up to $15,990 pre-tax.
