The Health Network includes St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, a tertiary/quaternary teaching hospital, and Sacred Heart Health Service, a leading provider Palliative Care and Rehabilitation services. St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVNHS) is a renowned health care, research and teaching institution located in the heart of Sydney, Australia. Established in 1857, St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney has a rich history of providing compassionate and excellent patient outcomes and experiences, reflective of the broad community it serves. Additionally, the Network is part of the St Vincent’s Sydney Health Innovation Precinct and has a long-standing research and education focus, collaborating with globally-renown academic institutions and research organisations to drive medical innovation and develop new treatment modalities.
Based in Sydney, the COO has executive accountability for the leadership and management of the clinical operational streams across the Health Network, as well as supporting leadership for Nursing and Allied Health professional teams. As a member of the St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney Senior Leadership Team, the role will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations for six clinical operational streams across the Health Network, fostering an environment that encourages learning, collaboration and restorative practices.
- Providing leadership and strategic direction for Nursing and Allied Health professional teams, in partnership with the Director of Nursing and the Director of Allied Health.
- Driving and supporting delivery of exceptional patient outcomes and experiences and system-leading operational performance.
- Managing hospital services, streamlining operational processes, and ensuring adherence to healthcare standards and regulatory compliance.
- Working closely with the CEO and senior leadership and operational teams and key stakeholders to develop and execute strategies that enhance patient care, improve operational performance metrics, drive quality improvement initiatives and foster a collaborative and restorative environment to support a thriving workforce, clinical excellence and organisational growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical/Operational Service Provision – strategically develop, build and maintain safe and efficient, evidence-based services that will meet the current and future needs of our people, our patients, residents and clients.
- Teaching, Education, Research and Collaboration – promote the development and implementation of best practice inter-disciplinary learning and development systems and approaches to enhance SVHNS as an employer of choice and to support excellence in patient care.
- Performance and Continuous Improvement – ensure the delivery of key performance outcomes against service indicators for all services.
- Leadership – lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the team, fostering an inclusive and high- performance operating environment. Coach and develop managers with regular feedback and open communication.
- Financial and Operational Performance – ensure the portfolio operates within a robust set of financial and operational performance targets that represent an appropriate balance between current capabilities, acceptable performance standards and industry best practice.
- Strategy and Stakeholder Management – ensure that high quality relationships are developed and maintained with key partner organisations, promoting St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney in the public arena.
- Compliance and Work, Health and Safety – ensure compliance across all relevant standards or accreditation and legislative requirements. Shape, guide and drive WHS strategy and objectives.
Key Requirements:
- Extensive executive management experience within public health in a hospital setting.
- Strong track record of improving patient care outcomes and experience, delivering excellent and compassionate care in an environment of inclusion and empowerment.
- Demonstrated experience aligning operational strategies to achieve strategic vision and organisational goals.
- Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to lead through complex transformation, motivating teams to deliver best in class operational performance.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and experience negotiating, networking, developing and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong commercial/financial acumen driving strong performance and ensuring available resources are used effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, develop and inspire people, creating a high-performance culture.
- Tertiary qualifications in economics, business management, health or a related field.
