Water Treatment Plant Coordinator
The Mackay Regional Council serves approximately 125,000 residents across an area of 7,600 square kilometres. The Water Treatment Plant Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of the Mackay Water & Waste Water Treatment Plants to achieve a level of treatment in accordance with regulatory requirements such as the Environmental Protection Act, Environment Licenses, Public Health Act, and Drinking Water Quality and Recycled Water Management Plans.
This position will coordinate operational activities within the area of the Treatment Plants, and Aquatic facilities and ensure they are carried out in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the workload and rostering of the treatment plant operators to ensure adequate coverage in accordance with Council’s policies and WH&S requirements.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and performance at the treatment plants.
- Liaise with treatment and process engineers to assist with planning, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting of performance at the treatment plants.
- Act as the treatment operations representative in all aspects of the delivery of treatment infrastructure.
- Facilitate the treatment plant operator’s toolbox meetings and communicate relevant outcomes.
- Evaluate operator’s current skill sets and identify training needs.
- Maintain records of plant operations and provide reports to management as required.
- Contribute to the leadership and coordination of the Water Treatment Program.
Position Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Strong report writing skills with the ability to articulate issues and propose solutions.
- Well-developed computer operation skills, including the use of corporate systems and Microsoft Office products.
- Substantial knowledge of Health and Safety Standards, associated regulations, systems, and emergency procedures.
- Substantial knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Experience in supervising large treatment operations teams.
- Degree with substantial experience in a related field such as Water Operations, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- General Safety Induction – White Card.
- QLD “C” Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent.
Desirable:
- First Aid certificate.
- Confined space certificate.
- Operate Breathing Apparatus certificate.
- Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations.
