The Role

  • Administers the Dangerous Goods Safety Legislation.
  • Reviews, assesses and makes recommendations regarding complex licensing and compliance issues.
  • Ensures compliance with and assist in developing governance, reporting standards and protocols and risk management requirements related to dangerous goods legislation.
  • Undertakes audits/inspections and performance monitoring for compliance with the relevant legislation, including review of: safety management systems, incident reporting, plant performance and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Undertakes enforcement activity aligned with the Division's programmes and policies.
  • Prepares investigation reports on; breaches of the Act and regulations, incidents, accidents and near misses.
  • Responds to requests for complex regulatory and technical information; initiate and respond to correspondence; prepare documentation to enforce legislation.
  • Promotes safety by developing relevant safety policy, legislation and guidelines, preparing and delivering presentations and contributing to the preparation of the departments' safety information products.



Qualifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering degree in an appropriate discipline or approved equivalent degree.
  • Experience in managing emerging issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply dangerous goods legislation and experience and skills in conducting complex accident investigations.
  • Significant experience in dangerous goods management and/or regulation.
