Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical cost estimates with precision and attention to detail (from Class Estimate 3 to Class Estimate 1).
  • Interpret 3D models, technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation to ensure accurate and reliable estimates.
  • Source and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing to achieve competitive rates.
  • Analyse material, labour, and equipment costs to develop comprehensive cost breakdowns.
  • Support tender submissions and commercial reviews with detailed cost breakdowns and feasibility data.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior management to ensure estimates reflect all aspects of the project scope.
  • Partake in project handover to ensure alignment of project execution strategies and methodologies to the estimated approach.
  • Maintain and update estimating tools and cost data libraries.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings to optimize project budgets.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the gas, energy, or heavy industrial sectors. Gas turbine power generation highly desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant trade qualification (Cert III).
  • Proficiency in planning, organizing, and working to tight timelines and schedules.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office Suite. Essential: Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of gas power plant systems, mechanical construction, and installation methods.
  • Clear understanding of relevant Australian Codes and Standards, as well as OH&S Codes and Standards.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to assess and manage risk in cost planning.
