Focus of the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer with minimum of 15+ years of experience in IT domain specialising in Observability, you will be responsible to define and enable software engineering teams with observability solutions, tooling and practices. You thrive on working with your team to execute on the overall Software testing strategy, helping Telstra to simplify our IT systems, strengthen business resilience and ultimately maximise the value we deliver to our customers.

What You'll Do

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra's software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies.


Responsibilities

  • Create innovative observability solutions to adopt and use observability such as
    Observability as a code, Common Logging Frameworks, Open Telemetry, AIOps etc.
  • Define and enhance observability standards, best practices continuously in-line with
    industry standards and innovations
  • Collaborate with various software development teams to coach, develop, use
    observability as part of their dev and Ops life cycle
  • Create innovative observability solutions to adopt and use observability such as
    Observability as a code, Common Logging Frameworks, Open Telemetry, AI Ops etc.
  • Hands-on development of dashboards and alerts for proof of concepts and trials using
    tools of choice
  • Collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders (not limited to
    Agile Teams, Product Owners, Business, SRE teams) to understand focus areas, pain
    points and provide solutions
  • Work on implementing embedding Observability into the CI/CD processes as part of the
    golden path of software development.



    About You

    Essential Skills:
  • Experience in designing and implementing observability architectures, frameworks and solutions
  • Up to date knowledge on industry best practices in observability
  • Strong coding experience required for observability tooling - e.g. NRQL (NewRelic),Splunk regex
    General
  • Good understanding of end to end CI/CD processes as it relates to implementing observability
  • Domain knowledge gained in telecommunication industry
  • Handson implementation experience in instrumentation of application logs, traces, metrics
  • Exposure in incident, change, and problem management
  • Agile ways of working
  • Experience with open source tools for observability or experience with same patterns in architecture is an advantage
  • Implementation experience of observability frameworks at scale
  • Hands on experience with OTEL and AIOps.
  • Working experience with multiple domains.
  • Has hands-on on at least one programming knowledge.

    Desirable Skills:
  • Certification in AWS or an equivalent cloud provider
  • AWS and other infra experience relevant to observability is preferred
  • Solution design or architecture background
  • Experience with design patterns, architecture, secure coding
  • Embedding Observability into CI/CD pipelines
  • Telecom domain knowledge is desirable
  • Certification on Security essentials
