We’re looking for a passionate ASRV Engineering Manager to join our Defence team in Hobart. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering engineering support to the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), managing a dynamic team and contributing to the operational readiness of the vessel RSV Nuyina. You’ll oversee configuration changes, technical enhancements, and collaboration with subcontractors, ensuring the vessel’s capabilities remain cutting-edge and compliant with statutory and contractual obligations.

We’re looking for a passionate ASRV Engineering Manager to join our Defence team in Hobart. You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering engineering support to the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), managing a dynamic team and contributing to the operational readiness of the vessel RSV Nuyina. You’ll oversee configuration changes, technical enhancements, and collaboration with subcontractors, ensuring the vessel’s capabilities remain cutting-edge and compliant with statutory and contractual obligations.
As an Engineering Manager in the ASRV team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
- Leading engineering support activities in alignment with contract and statutory standards
- Managing capability development, planning, and integration across the vessel
- Overseeing configuration management, modification orders, and procurement support
- Supporting season planning and coordination of port-based engineering works
- Collaborating with Serco, AAD, and subcontractor teams to ensure effective operations
- Contributing technical leadership and guidance for sustainable performance improvements
To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Have
- A degree in Engineering (with at least 10 years’ experience), or a Mechanical Trade (20+ years)
- Extensive experience in commercial shipyard or ship management environments
- Strong understanding of maritime operations and legislation (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, Polar Code and Classification Societies etc.)
- Membership of the Engineers Institute of Australia (IE Aust. or an equivalent Engineering Institution)
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing diverse technical teams
- Knowledge in asset management, configuration systems, and risk management practices
- This position carries trust and responsibility. To support this, a comprehensive probity assessment, including a National Police Check, is a key part of the selection process for this role.
