- Gas is an essential service in Victoria, and it will be for decades to come. Our priority is to continue safe and reliable gas supply to our gas distribution customers in Western Victoria.
- We are continuing to collaborate with the Victorian government to further understand the costs and benefits of electrification, the potential role for renewable gas in the future, and the role of the gas network to support the energy system through the transition.
- Maintaining a safe gas network, supporting price stability, and seeking equitable outcomes for customers through the energy transition will require ongoing dialogue and a coordinated approach.

Your role as the Manager, Network Strategy & Optimisation is to lead a high-performing team responsible for driving the near, medium, and long-term performance of AusNet’s Gas Network, while proactively addressing emerging issues and shaping the future of renewable and greenfield gas strategies.
Central to the role is the development of gas network models that inform strategic decision-making considering commercial outcomes, regulatory frameworks, and customer experience.
The role is also responsible for developing key strategic initiatives for the Gas Business including our Renewable Gas Strategy, Network Emissions Reduction Strategy and Innovation. These initiatives are designed to preserve and enhance the value of AusNet’s existing and future gas assets.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who thrives on being hands-on. Brings renewable gas industry experience and an ability to drive meaningful change and value creation for the network.
With a Hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based South Bank and is part of the Network Management Team will require occasional travel within Victoria.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Forster the development and growth of the team members and drive strong employee engagement.
- Development of the Gas Network models to inform short, medium and long term decision making regarding Network performance
- Develop the Gas Renewables Strategy highlighting key tactical actions to progress Ausnet’s opportunity space
- Develop the Gas Network Emissions reduction strategy
- Develop of the Network Decommissioning Strategy
- Monitor Network performance and health through KPIs, data analysis and intel from the field.
- Influence and maintain relationships outside the Gas Network Management Department and Gas business, to drive Asset performance and strategic outcomes
- Develop strong and influential relationships with the market operator, AEMO, for supply and capacity upstream impacts
- Influence and maintain relationships outside the Gas Network Management Department and Gas business, to drive business and Asset performance outcomes
- Drive Risk Assessments on key Network performance risks identified. Ensure risks are documented, managed and communicated via Risk Registers.
- Responsible for a consolidated view to Asset Augmentation programs and other Opex related work programs. Support the enterprise Capex, Opex and Access Arrangement Planning cycles.
- Ensure investment scopes are efficient and consider the future network strategy
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Extensive experience in Engineering and Operations
- Some experience in Renewable Gas
- Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, mentor and support team to achieve targets.
- Comprehension of the technical and economic regulation governing gas networks.
- Proven ability to influence change in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships internally and externally, and lead initiatives to successfully deliver business outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking with the ability to connect with organisational strategy and identify what is required at a tactical level to achieve it.
