I n an era where the boundaries between privacy and technology grow ever thinner, the legal world finds itself in urgent need of translators—individuals fluent in both the language of code and the nuance of law. This role calls for such a person.
This is a role for a litigation technology specialist with deep expertise in privacy class actions someone who understands not just how personal data is compromised, but what it means—legally, ethically, and societally—when it is.
This is not a conventional legal technologist and lawyer role. You will be at the forefront of Australia’s burgeoning privacy litigation, where questions about algorithmic accountability, biometric surveillance, and mass data breaches unfold in courtrooms with national implications. Your work will shape how courts interpret the reach of legislation like the Privacy Act.
You will be representing a group membership estimated to be 10 million people.

The annual base salary for this position will be above AUD $100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What will you bring?
Deep understanding of privacy and data protection law, especially
- Australian data protection legislation and requirements
- Class action procedure knowledge and case management
- Civil procedure and evidence mastery in eDisclosure obligations
- Use of technology-assisted review (TAR) and predictive coding
- Digital Evidence and Data Breach Expertise
- Strong understanding of how data breaches occur
- Experience with data flow mapping and distinguishing between structured and unstructured data types
- Managing end-to-end document review projects, from data ingestion and processing to production
- Designing and optimising review workflows tailored to case strategy (e.g. issue coding, privilege review, TAR)
- Utilising advanced analytics tools (e.g. email threading, clustering, concept search, keyword expansion) to enhance review efficiency and surface key documents quickly
- Familiarity with metadata handling and preservation
- Advising on risks of metadata alteration during document handling or conversion
- Ability to interpret and analyse structured datasets, including those sourced from data breaches or leaks
- Skilled in SQL, Python, and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and problem-solving
- Maintaining data security and confidentiality
- Compliance with ethical standards, litigation funding regulations, and ethical boundaries around group proceedings
- Effective communication with courts, clients, and claimants
- Media and PR sensitivity for high-profile class actions
- Liaising with IT security and legal technology teams
- Background in major privacy litigation or data breach claims
- Experience in tech-forward law firms
- Certifications or training
- CIPP/E, CIPM, or similar (privacy professional)
- RelativityOne or eDiscovery specialist certification
- Cybersecurity or incident response training
