The opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our data and analytics platforms—leading the design, implementation, and monitoring of robust data pipelines. You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure seamless integration of data sources into our central platform. Your expertise will also guide data modelling efforts, ensuring new data fits cohesively into our enterprise architecture.

This is a high-impact role within our central Data & Analytics team, a centre of excellence that partners across the business to deliver strategic, data-driven solutions. Your work will directly support Hostplus’ mission to provide a holistic view of our members and employers, enabling more personalised journeys and better decision-making across the organisation.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the data integration roadmap for Hostplus’ data and analytics platforms
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand data, reporting, and analytics needs
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs and documentation
  • Lead the design and development of data pipelines with internal teams and external partners
  • Monitor and optimise performance of existing data interfaces
  • Track cloud resource usage and manage cost efficiency
  • Champion data governance and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to enterprise data architecture and modelling
  • Provide ad-hoc data and analytics support for internal projects

About You

You’re a technically skilled and business-savvy data engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment. You bring a strong foundation in data engineering on Azure and a passion for building scalable, high-quality data solutions.

Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years in data engineering, integration, and modelling roles
  • Deep experience with Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Function Apps, Azure SQL)
  • Strong SQL, Python, and PySpark skills
  • Experience with API development (SOAP & REST)
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric and Adobe Analytics / AEP is highly desirable
  • Solid understanding of data architecture and performance modelling
  • Power BI development experience
  • Exposure to DevOps tools (Git, Azure DevOps) and Power Automate
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills
  • Understanding of data governance and quality frameworks
  • Superannuation industry experience is a plus
  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field are desirable
