The IT Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery, performance, and continuous improvement of IT operations across the organisation, specifically within a construction and manufacturing environment. This role leads teams responsible for network services, cloud platforms, service desk, and infrastructure support, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable IT services to support core business operations. The IT Operations Lead works closely with business units, project teams, and vendors to maintain a high standard of service delivery, incident resolution, system availability and operational efficiency across all sites, including plants, quarries, offices, and remote locations. As a people leader, this role will have a total of 8 reports across the Network Operations Team.
Your day will involve:
- Lead the planning, design, implementation, and support of enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless, firewalls, and data center connectivity.
- Manage and mentor the network operations team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
- Ensure optimal network performance through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and issue resolution.
- Oversee incident, problem, and change management processes in alignment with ITIL best practices.
- Drive response and resolution of major network incidents, coordinating across teams and ensuring timely communication with stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain operational standards, procedures, and documentation to support consistent, reliable network operations.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service-level agreements for network services and equipment.
- Collaborate with security, cloud, and application teams to ensure the network is aligned with enterprise architecture and security policies.
- Lead or support network-related projects, including office/site expansions, migrations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Prepare and present performance reports, metrics, and insights to IT leadership.
What are we looking for?
- Demonstrated experience in managing network operations in large-scale, multi-site enterprise environments with prior experience in a lead role
- Deep expertise in enterprise networking technologies and protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, SD-WAN) and strong experience with leading network platforms and tools (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Aruba, SolarWinds, PRTG).
- Proven ability to manage and lead high-performing technical teams in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of driving root cause analysis and long-term resolution.
- Strong understanding of IT service management (ITSM) frameworks, particularly ITIL.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, budgets, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Industry certifications preferred: Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), or relevant cloud certifications (Azure/AWS).
- Exposure to information security, risk management, and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, SOC2).
- Good level of understanding and experience in the administration of Microsoft Active Directory.
