Costa Group is seeking a National Food Safety & Quality Manager to join our Avocado & Banana Senior Leadership Team. This role reports directly to the General Manager - Avocados and Bananas.

About The Role

The National Food Safety & Quality Manager will drive the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the Food Safety and Quality Management System across the Avocado and Banana categories. This includes fostering a strong Food Safety & Quality Culture throughout the business.

This role oversees and maintains the integrity of category processes to ensure compliance with regulatory (including biosecurity), food safety and quality, environmental, ethical sourcing, and customer requirements. You will work closely with Site Food Safety & Quality Managers, Site Management Teams, the Sales and Supply Team, and other members of the category.

The role requires strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to respond dynamically in high-pressure situations and foster strong relationships across the business and with retail customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the implementation and continuous improvement of the Costa Food Safety and Quality Management System across the Avocado and Banana category.
  • Champion a positive Food Safety & Quality Culture throughout all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory (including biosecurity), food safety, quality, environmental, ethical sourcing, and customer standards.
  • Provide leadership and support to site Food Safety & Quality Managers, site teams, and category stakeholders.
  • Deliver group and business unit-specific food safety and quality strategies and goals; support effective implementation at site level.
  • Attend National Food Safety & Quality (FS&Q) meetings and contribute to cross-functional improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and update FS&Q documentation, including QC documentation, grower postharvest manuals, and Quality Attribute Sheets in line with customer specifications.
  • Conduct annual site visits to ensure compliance, support team development, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the Business Unit lead for FS&Q documentation and intranet (SharePoint) content management.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Science, or a related discipline.
  • Formal training in HACCP, Freshcare, Freshcare Environmental, TACCP/VACCP, Internal or Lead Auditor.
  • Demonstrated experience in food safety and quality management within the food industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Freshcare, HARPS, HACCP, and relevant state/national food safety and biosecurity regulations.
  • Excellent auditing, technical, and compliance skills, particularly in horticulture.
  • Self-motivated, well-organised, and detail-oriented.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively across all business levels.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
