PKF Sydney & Newcastle is seeking an experienced manager to join our business advisory services team. This is a permanent role within a flexible working fun environment, based in Newcastle or Sydney. We are a mid-tier practice, and a national award-winning accounting, tax and business advisory firm.

The opportunity

The Manager is responsible for overseeing a large compliance-focused portfolio comprising special purpose financial statements and tax returns for medium-sized businesses and high-net-wealth individuals. This position requires you to support the professional development of team members, including participation in performance reviews, identifying training needs, and providing on-the-job coaching and mentoring.

Key responsibilities

This role is not hands-on in terms of preparing the work, instead, it requires someone with strong review and workflow management experience, high attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of client outcomes. While client-facing skills are valued, the role does not require a focus on advisory services or business development. The right person will have a passion for managing and improving the delivery of core tax compliance work and supporting the Partner in maintaining high service standards.

What you need to apply

This position requires a highly organised team player with the ability to build relationships with the team. You will take initiative and ownership, operating as a self-starter who follows through and sees tasks to completion with minimal supervision You will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment
CA or CPA qualified, with a minimum of 8 years' experience in public practice or demonstrated capability in a similar client-facing manager role within business services. Strong technical expertise in accounting and taxation, including preparation and review of financial statements, income tax returns, and working knowledge of indirect taxes (GST, FBT). Proven experience in reviewing work and providing effective feedback. Thorough understanding of tax compliance obligations for individuals, companies and trusts, with the ability to manage a wide-ranging portfolio
Well-developed skills in delegation and workflow management. Proficient in Xero and MYOB, with strong working knowledge of associated tax and workpaper tools
