The Opportunity

Cochlear is excited to welcome a Firmware Engineer to be apart of Cochlear's product development firmware team, being accountable in firmware deliverables for R&D products and technology developments. Based in Sydney, you will be directly contributing to the direction and strategies of the Firmware and DSP teams. In this role, the successful Firmware Engineer will help to implement the strategies of the team through technical leadership, firmware development, and project management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Understand firmware requirements for each project.
  • Develop firmware in Assembly or C for embedded platforms.
  • Write unit and system tests using C, Python or Assembly
  • Lead small to medium-sized tasks or projects.
  • Support the team with technical decisions and problem-solving.
  • Follow quality procedures and contribute to continuous improvement.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • University degree in electronics , electrical or software/ computer engineering or similar.
  • Strong skills in C/C++ programming.
  • Familiar with coding standards (e.g., MISRA C, SOLID, OOP).
  • Strong problem-solving and cross-functional thinking.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in firmware architecture design.
  • Familiarity with assembly language.
  • Knowledge of C# or other high-level languages.
  • Understanding of RTOS concepts.
  • Familiar with Agile development practices.
  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
