Position Information
Palm Ave School is a specialist school within the NSW Centre for Effective Reading. The NSW Centre for Effective Reading (NSW CER) is a NSW Department of Education and NSW health initiative. NSW CER is a statewide service for students referred from eligible government and non-government schools. NSW CER supports primary aged, rural and remote students with complex reading difficulties who have been identified and accepted for a direct service.
Teachers work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of specialist staff including teachers and Speech Pathologists and School Psychologists, to provide assessment and intervention services to primary school age students with complex reading and language difficulties from rural and remote areas of NSW. This includes the administration of reading assessments for students (either face-to-face or remotely) with identified complex reading difficulties, reporting on the results of assessments and leading the development and delivery of evidence-based interventions.
NSW CER currently has hubs located in Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and metropolitan Sydney area.
Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria.
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex reading difficulties to strengthen the capacity of their teachers.
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
- Educational leadership skills to build and manage the performance of individuals and teams that are multidisciplinary and on multiple sites.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage with Information Communication Technology to monitor student progress as well as lead and manage a virtual team.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
