An excellent opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and passionate IT Technical Expert for Linux and VMware technologies in the Telstra Defence Operations, TACINT Team.


This roles focus will be on providing support for our OS', virtualisation, applications and hardware for our production systems. You will have the opportunity to help build, design and integrate new products into the environment



The opportunity


We are looking for a Technical Expert to support the operations and maintenance of the Telstra Defence TACINT systems. Specifically, the compute, operating system, network and management application stacks.


This role is based in Canberra. This is an office-based role.


The TACINT Team supports both the production and pre-production environments for the Defence Tactical Networks. In this role your primary focus would be on the operations of the production environment, you will also be working with the engineering teams to document and build new functionality.

In this role your focus will be on Linux Administration. You will also get the opportunity to work on a varied number of technologies:

  • VMWare Virtualisation
  • Monitoring applications
  • Cisco Networking
  • Storage
  • Backup systems



Please note all candidates must be Australian Citizens and hold a minimum of NV1 AGSVA security clearance to be considered. This role will require you to gain or hold and maintain an Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance.



Your key responsibilities and major tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • You will be responsible for all facets of managing TACINT platforms.
  • Restoring elements to working order
  • Proactively looking for potential issues
  • Managing changes within the environment
  • Maintaining the TACINT Baseline
  • Looking for opportunities to improve the TACINT platforms
  • Working with engineering teams to design and document functionality
