This role is classified as Level 2 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $68,239 - $71,000). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.
As a rostered shiftworker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA.

The Department
The principal purpose of SBS News and Current Affairs is to provide the most accurate, balanced, and detailed coverage of international and major domestic news across all platforms. It is our role to deliver depth and analysis to help our audiences understand often complex issues. We also seek to showcase stories from within our many communities that reflect constructively on multiculturalism & Indigenous affairs.
The Role
Reporting to the Social Lead, the Social Media Moderator will play a critical role in providing proactive social media moderation across key SBS news and current affairs social media profiles including SBS News, Dateline, Insight and The Feed. The successful candidate will contribute to the building and management of audience communities, provide insights into community conversations and trending topics to teams via social listening, and contribute to newsgathering, content creation and output where required. 
Key responsibilities include:
Creating a respectful and safe space for audiences by moderating comments across key SBS social profiles and across all channels including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube
Building community engagement and interaction including referring audiences to the SBS Help centre, answering general questions, workshopping bespoke responses and/or utilising pre-approved responses to respond to general feedback and providing fact check
Providing audience insights and communicating trends in comments to news and current affairs teams
Leverage your journalistic background to backfill the Social Producer and contribute to social scheduling, publishing, optimisation and social content production tasks where required
Use social listening to monitor brand trust, mis/disinformation, and audience questions to inform story pitches for the wider team
Minimise risks for the SBS brand and audience using your understanding of media law, ethics of journalism and SBS values
About you
We’re looking for someone who brings:
A proven background in media and social media
2+ years of experience in either newsrooms, customer service or both
Demonstrated success in stakeholder management and communication
Strong expertise in social media moderation and community management
Strong copy writing skills
