At The Salvation Army, we walk alongside women and children escaping family violence, offering refuge, safety, and support to rebuild their lives. Through our Family Violence Stream, we provide counselling, housing, children’s programs, and holistic care to those who need it most.
We are currently seeking a Children and Youth Counsellor with heart, compassion, and a commitment to trauma-informed care to join our team in Karratha.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award, level 6.

About The Role
This isn’t just a counselling job — it’s a chance to be a steady, safe presence for children and families in crisis.
In This Role, You Will
- Deliver therapeutic counselling interventions and group work to children who have experienced family violence.
- Offer secondary therapeutic support to non-offending parents or caregivers, focusing on strengthening attachment and addressing the impact of trauma on child development through a trauma-informed approach.
- Provide secondary consultations to members of the Family Violence Stream team to assist them when working with children who are survivors of family violence.
- Establish and maintain resources relevant to supporting children who are experiencing family violence.
- Provide referral for women and children to relevant support agencies such as community health, parenting, multicultural or indigenous support programmes
- Proactively participate in, and support networks that are improving outcomes for women and children experiencing family violence.
- Respect the diverse needs of all community groups and individuals to ensure that their needs are met in an inclusive and sensitive manner.
- Degree qualification in social work, psychology and/ or counselling
- Be a member and registered with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc)
- Strong history of working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs.
- Relevant child protection requirements are obtained for example Working with children check.
