About The Role

We are looking for a Team Leader to join our - Residue Management Area at Rio Tinto Yarwun. You will lead a medium-sized team of process technicians and subcontractors towards achieving our safety, people and growth objectives through planning and executing production activities.

This role is a great opportunity for a safety-focused Supervisor to drive positive change and motivate a team to strive for continuous improvement. Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.

Reporting to the Superintendent - Residue Management some of your duties will include

  • Demonstrating personal and team behaviour that meets or exceeds the Yarwun Visions and Models for leadership
  • Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
  • Deliver operational excellence by identifying and implementing improvement initiatives
  • Conduct required audits and inspections to a high standard, and for the purpose of reinforcing a strong HSE culture and systems
  • Ensuring targets are consistently delivered in a sustainable/ timely manner and with maximum customer satisfaction
  • Developing relief Team Leaders and other required capability within the team
  • Delivering weekly, monthly and annual production and safety performance KPI’s
  • Managing expenditure within the allocated budget and execution of Yarwun operating system

What You’ll Bring

  • A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Experience leading in an industrial or similar environment with a production focus
  • A leadership role within a production team desirable
  • A passion for developing, training and motivating your people and enabling their success
  • Sound risk management skills and ability to make decisions based on risk
  • Sounds computer literacy skills. Working knowledge of SAP could be advantageous

Where you’ll be working

Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.

As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.

With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
