Do you have a passion for supporting public health objectives to reduce chronic disease related to overweight and obesity through involvement in the national food regulatory system?
Do you want to be involved in the review and development of national food policy and food standards?
If so, then we want to hear from you!
The Department of Health is actively involved in the national food regulatory system to ensure that food for sale in WA is safe and suitable to consume. The Food Unit within the Environmental Health Directorate provide strategic policy advice to the WA Minister for Health on food standards and food regulatory activities to support better public health outcomes.
The Food Unit has one full time (part time is an option as Job Share) permanent position currently available.
Eligibility to Apply: To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).
WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. As well as undertaking a criminal record screening and integrity checking, you may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre-employment health assessment. We may ask referees to comment on your integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour. Please note that adverse information does not necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be considered as part of the appointment process.
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated knowledge and experience in nutrition policy. The role requires the ability to critically review the research literature to identify risks and concerns associated with national public health proposals. The successful applicant will have excellent attention to detail and be able to quickly determine competing public health nutrition priorities while systematically working through complex proposals. You will need to work closely with colleagues across government and maintain these relationships even when policy views do not align.
