Reporting to the Manager: Mining, the Manager: UG - Technical Services for the Australia Business Unit provides tactical, operational and strategic support, that delivers maximum value for AngloGold Ashanti’s operating assets and projects in Australia consistent with the Company’s Vision and Values. Includes all activities related to Underground Mining, Planning and Strategy.
The role also provides direct output support to both Site and Regional teams within the Australia Business Unit in the identification and adoption of relevant discipline strategy, provision of competent technical support to the operations, provision of governance/assurance and representation of AGA on all matters relating to the discipline including the interaction and benchmarking with peers in the industry.

Accountabilities:
- Leads a small team of Underground mining Specialists, to provide expert tactical mining, mine planning and technical support for the Australia Business Unit’s assets Underground mine operations
- Identify ongoing improvement opportunities and ensuring adequate support to operations to act on these opportunities, assisting with implementation and tracking and reporting on progress.
- Review, monitor and provide guidance to ensure the development of optimised operational mining plans that ensure delivery of the business requirements.
- Provide expert technical support, review, and guidance to the mining operations, across the areas of mine planning, production, ventilation, infrastructure, and drill and blast, for safe and effective delivery of mine plans.
- Coordinate the Underground Life of Mine strategic planning process through the development of robust strategic plans for the Underground mining operations.
- Contributing discipline specific inputs towards the annual business planning process, and quarterly integrated planning, and identify risks and opportunities within these plans.
- Technical lead, and review for the Annual reserves reporting, including ability to act as Qualified Person for the reporting of reserves in accordance with all internal and external requirements
- Lead, coordinate and deliver underground mining components for Projects and studies.
- Mentor and develop a small team of specialist engineers within the Australia BU and across the operations teams.
- Provide support to sites, BU and Commercial team for the annual rate review process as a SME for Underground Mining provide input into tender evaluations.
- Provide, support, facilitate and report processes to develop benchmark metrics, reports and standards for performance measurement.

- A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline or other.
- At least 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry
- Expert underground mine optimisation, design and scheduling
- Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain including mining underground and open pit, geotechnical, metallurgy and projects.
- Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgement and preparedness to take a well-reasoned stand on matters of importance.
- Strong track record of practical implementation of analytical tools and analysis.
- Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking
- A capacity in financial decision making and Risk Management
- Worked in an expatriate role and has demonstrated capability and willingness to explore and embrace different cultures
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.
- The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
- Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
