Your Position at St John of God Bendigo Hospital

You will act as an advisor to clinicians regarding complete and accurate inpatient documentation.

Ensure a high quality, efficient and effective service provision, within agreed KPIs and protect hospital revenues through ensuring compliance with documentation.

This newly created position is designed to enhance the quality of clinical documentation provided by VMOs, optimise health fund returns, and support the development and implementation of improved internal processes to ensure consistently high standards of clinical documentation.

The Position

  • Demonstrate increased revenue as a result of clinical documentation improvement activities.
  • Ensure a robust clinical documentation practices, thereby legitimately reducing the impact of Health Fund audits.
  • Ensure that gaps in clinical documentation are identified and addressed via training and use of appropriate documentation guides.
  • Develop and implement effective education programs to optimise calibre of clinical documentation and timely processing and handling of clinical documentation in wards
  • Evaluate education outcomes and amend to optimise standards
  • Ability to positively influence directions and decisions, and change behaviours
  • Present and articulate at all levels of the organisation to increase knowledge of the service and implication of health fund contracts
  • Demonstrates leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills, change management ability and the development of a high performance team that exhibits a culture of professional accountability and quality service.
  • Identify opportunities and priorities for inpatient clinical documentation improvement across SJG and initiate clinical documentation improvement initiatives where these are not currently in place of not effective
  • Provides support and liaises with other hospital caregivers and users of the service as required.

You will have Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent and broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes, with minimum of 5 years recent experience working in a hospital clinical care environment.

To succeed you will have good understanding of clinical documentation in a hospital environment and experience in auditing and reviewing clinical documentation for variance, completeness and improvement. Knowledge of hospital based clinical coding processes, the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) and Diagnostic Related Groups (AR-DRGs) and how they relate to inpatient funding is desirable.

  • Salary $108,867 to $114,596 per annum (pro rata for part time) plus 12% superannuation
  • Fixed term part-time position, working up to 38 hours a fortnight
