We are currently seeking a Senior or Associate Principal level Mechanical Engineer to join our Critical Infrastructure (CI) team in Melbourne. Our CI Team work and consult on a variety of different projects, including completing onsite inspection of heavy machinery, design reviews of mining & ports machinery and engineering design for heavy industry and maritime partners.
The Associate Principal Engineer will act as a technical subject matter expert, technical mentor, work winning consultant, Project Manager and, lead project teams to deliver successful projects and to maintain our brand reputation for superior quality technical work with a strong customer focus.

Key Responsibilities
In this role you will:
- Perform professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and a high degree of originality, ingenuity and judgement.
- Review and audit of the design of machinery and associated structures and components.
- Conceptualise and design machinery and associated structures and components.
- Conduct Testing, Measurement and Stress analysis of machines, machine components and machine structures, using various techniques including Space Gass, Finite element modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Discrete Element Modelling (DEM).
- Act as a work winning champion of new or existing clients including key account management, developing bids and proposals and liaising with BMT Program Managers.
- Share knowledge and act as mentor within area of expertise or across the business including reviewing the work of Engineers designers/drafters, and technicians.
- Formally or informally lead and manage a team, if desired.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant area of study
- Minimum 10 years’ experience post-graduation
- Relevant registration with recognised engineering body, preferably with CPEng, RPEQ & RPEV
- Experience with machinery such as stackers, reclaimers, excavators, minerals processing plant, mobile mining machinery, underground mining, draglines, belt conveyors, rolling stock, ship loaders, port machinery, cranes etc.
- A thorough knowledge of both local and international governing design codes for the above equipment such as AS4324.1, AS1418, ISO 5049 & FEMII, AS3990, AS4100, AS1657, and others
- Experience in a consulting environment.
