Having a driver’s licence is a key milestone in a young person’s life and helps them move towards independence. Being able to drive gives young people the choice and control necessary to realise their education, employment, and housing goals Your role is first and foremost about supporting safe driving: role modelling it, speaking about it, and helping a young person practice and consolidate the driving skills learned with a professional Driving Instructor. As part of this role, you will sit in the car with the young driver and assist in logging the 120 hours of supervised driving required to sit the test In addition, you will provide constructive feedback, model respectful communication, patience, and clear boundaries. Volunteer Mentors have a strong ability to demonstrate empathy, consistency, reliability and promote safe and stable relationships
Volunteers are intrinsic to the success of the program and participant; they will be providing much needed on-going support and mentorship to program participants. To help set volunteers up for success, they will be provided with extensive and necessary training, on-going support and become a valued member of the team. The Salvation Army will also provide a fully equipped vehicle for driving sessions with the young driver Volunteering with The Salvation Army is a great opportunity to actively support one of Australia’s largest not-forprofit organisations. It will also help you gain experience, skills and knowledge in a highly supportive environment. At The Salvation Army we care about our volunteers and are dedicated to ensuring your experience is both rewarding and memorable. - Enjoy working with young people.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with young people through effective communication and relationship building.
- Flexible and Patient.
Mandatory requirements for the role
- Willingness to undertake The Salvation Army’s Criminal History Record Check (at the organisation’s expense)
- Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check
- Willingness to engage in training provided for the role.
- Current unrestricted Driver License and 5 years safe driving record.
- Fully vaccinated.
- Willingness to engage in training provided
- 2 hours or more a week/fortnight
- 7 days flexible (Morning and Evenings available)
- Minimum 3-month commitment
