About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Environment Manager, this position is a key role to support the delivery of WSI's environmental and sustainability objectives. In this role, you will support the Environment Manager, Sustainability Manager and Executive Manager, Environment and Sustainability to achieve the requirements of the Airport Environment Strategy (AES), Sustainability Strategy, whilst supporting the business continually improve its environment management and performance.

This role will play a key part in delivering auditing and assurance activities, as well as conducting technical reviews across both environmental and sustainability functions. A critical component of the position involves analysing and reporting on performance against key objectives and compliance requirements for both internal and external stakeholders. This position will have the opportunity to support the delivery of unique programs across the airport to support our long-term commitment to the Environment and Sustainability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Environment and Sustainability Managers to deliver audits, assurance activities, and technical reviews across construction and operational phases.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide informed advice to support strategic initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including airport users and the Airports Environment Officer.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Coordinate and oversee the delivery of monitoring programs by external consultants and contractors.
  • Support the development, delivery and enhancement of Environment and Sustainability training.
  • Manage data collection systems, including the Geographic Information System (GIS), and oversee environmental and sustainability data analysis to support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, data-driven reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. Community and Stakeholder, Operations, Development, Planning, Asset Management) to provide SME advice and support strategic initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Health, Safety and Environment and Sustainability team to drive progress on key deliverables.
  • Support the development and rollout of sustainability rating assessment tools for operational readiness.
  • Review technical reports, monitor legislative updates and provide expert interpretation and advice.
  • Identify, assess and manage environmental and sustainability risks through appropriate controls and procedures.
  • Lead or support initiatives such as circular economy programs, heat island mitigation and the Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Support the tracking and reporting of operational environment and sustainability KPIs.
  • Assist with impact assessments to identify and reduce WSI's sustainability risks and associated costs.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving environmental and sustainability policies, strategies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the delivery and improvement of the WSA Sustainability Strategy, Sustainability Plan and related documents.


About You

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or Science or a related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a similar role within aviation, consultancy, corporate, construction or operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of Environment and Sustainability regulations, standards, accreditation schemes and reporting frameworks.
  • Proven experience developing, managing and implementing Environmental Management Systems aligned with ISO 14001.
  • Understanding of Climate related financial disclosure requirements, including development of limited and/or reasonable assurance.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with an ability to translate data into meaningful insights.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement capabilities, with a track record of managing diverse relationships effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to establish clear, effective channels across a range of audiences.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience handling and analysing large datasets.
  • Experience with environmental database software packages desirable (e.g ESdate)
  • Experience integrating environmental and sustainability data into broader business systems.
  • Strong organisational, time-management and project coordination skills, with a focus on accurate record keeping.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify issues and work collaboratively toward effective solutions.
