The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly capable and commercially astute Legal Counsel to join our Legal team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality legal services across a broad spectrum of the organisation's investment and operational activities. With a particular focus on structured commercial transactions-both domestic and offshore-the successful candidate will support fund investments, co-investments, joint ventures, direct investments, reconstructions, and disposals across public and private markets. Working closely with senior legal professionals, you will help ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with international best practices and applicable legal frameworks, while safeguarding the organisation's rights and interests.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will provide timely and commercially focused legal advice on a range of investment and operational matters. You will be responsible for managing the legal aspects of complex transactions, including negotiating terms and coordinating implementation. Your remit will include reviewing and drafting commercial contracts, consultancy agreements, and operational arrangements, as well as supporting the organisation's investment management framework. You will liaise with external counsel, monitor relevant legislative and regulatory developments, and ensure compliance with the Commonwealth Legal Services Directions and internal policies. Additionally, you will contribute to strategic initiatives, internal training, and the development of legal precedents and guidance materials. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisors will be essential, as will promoting efficiency in the use of external legal services.

About You

You are a qualified legal practitioner, admitted to practice in Victoria or another Australian jurisdiction, and eligible to hold a Victorian practising certificate. You bring 3 or more years experience from a leading commercial law firm and/or a high-performing in-house legal team, ideally with exposure to funds management or complex transactional work such as mergers and acquisitions. Your legal drafting and negotiation skills are exemplary, and you possess a strong ability to assess and manage legal risk. You are known for your collaborative approach, strategic mindset, and ability to deliver practical, business-oriented legal solutions. Your professional credibility, personal accountability, and ability to build trusted relationships make you a valued advisor and partner across the organisation.
