Join us as a Commercial Analyst (internally known as a Retail Commercial Services Specialist)and amplify your impact. This is a fixed term opportunity until August 2026, and will be based at Brisbane, Rockhampton, or Townsville.
Your Opportunity
As our Commercial Analyst, your financial management accounting experience and knowledge will be key to Energy Queensland’s continued success and growth.
Working within our Ergon Energy Retail business, you will provide analytical, commercial, and operational support to the Commercial Manager Retail to assist in achieving group financial and operational targets.
Working on a fixed term contract until the start of August, 2026, you will:
- Manage Ergon Energy Retail’s month end reporting processes, including preparing accounting models, journals, and reconciliations for Ergon Energy Queensland’s (EEQ) monthly financial and operational reporting requirements for the EEQ Board and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
- Lead and develop large components of the annual budget and monthly forecast process. Including demonstrated ability to follow up each business unit to provide meaningful variance explanations. As well as proposals for ongoing improvement.
- Prepare and analyse operational and financial metrics and use predictive modelling tools to track retail business improvement initiatives. You will also provide analysis and commentary on financial results.
- Use your knowledge in commercial unregulated activities such as trading plan margin, retail tariff allocations, contact centres, and capital expenditure
With either a 9 or 10 day fortnight in place, the bottom of the salary band starts from $134,933 for 9 days and $152,474 for 10 days + 14.75% superannuation.

What You’ll Bring
You will hold a Bachelor’s Degree and/or post-graduate qualification(s) in Commerce, Business, Information Technology, or related disciplines. Whilst not essential, it is advantageous to have completed the AFMA Trading course or Customer Service/Contact Centre course.
When it comes to your technical knowledge, skills, and experience, you have:
- Strong MS Office experience, particularly with Excel. Familiarity with SAP is highly advantageous.
- Financial and management accounting experience and knowledge related to debits, credits, journalling, and preparing financial reports.
- Some familiarity within a commercial or unregulated environment is highly desirable, with experience in leading a month end process as well as end to end budget process.
Thinking of your transferrable and soft skills, you are:
- Highly analytical in your approach, and act with independent judgement and initiative to make decisions. You have strong business acumen and problem-solving skills. Coupled with the ability to summarise detailed issues into presentable formats for senior management.
- Well-equipped with a toolkit of strong written and verbal communication skills, paired with the ability to present information and influence senior managers.
