The Opportunity

The Field Technician is a new kind of opportunity within WSP and will be an ideal fit for individuals with a trades or construction background seeking a new career challenge.

You will join a large national team of licensed asbestos assessors, certified occupational hygienists, senior toxicologists, and laboratory professionals who strive to anticipate and minimise the risks associated with hazardous materials and physical hazards in the workplace.

The role will be based in Townsville.

What you’ll do

  • Assist with sampling for airborne contaminants (e.g. respirable crystalline silica, dust, and chemicals) and physical hazards (e.g. noise and vibration) to support workplace health assessments
  • Support site surveys, including helping with the sampling of suspected hazardous building materials and pre-demolition inspections
  • Learn how to develop asbestos monitoring and decontamination strategies, including issuing clearances, under the guidance of senior team members
  • Provide on-site support during asbestos removal projects, with supervision
  • Help conduct indoor air quality, mould, and moisture assessments, and contribute to recommendations for remediation
  • Draft technical reports and proposals with input and review from senior staff


About you

You are likely to have trade experience in either building and construction, environmental management, or health and safety.

You will ideally bring the following:

  • Have experience in conducting hazmat surveys or supervising asbestos removal projects would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrate initiative, and ready and willing to embrace new challenges
  • Be willing to work remotely, with occasional weekends and overtime as required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Australian Driver's License
  • Asbestos Assessors License would be highly regarded
