About the role: Data Engineer – 12 month contract

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Data Governance Leader, the Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering the implementation of the Soda platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and aligned with organisational data quality objectives. Responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and deploy robust data quality checks and monitoring pipelines using the Soda platform within AWS cloud services.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based automation scripts to support the integration and scaling of Soda across diverse data sources.
  • Collaborate with Data Analysts, Engineers, and Governance teams to define and implement data quality rules and expectations.
  • Ensure seamless integration of Soda with AWS-native tools such as S3, Glue, Redshift, and Lambda.
  • Contribute to documentation, testing, and user training to support adoption and long-term maintainability of the Soda platform.

Be Impactful When You Are Applying

You are a hands-on Data Engineer with a strong background in Python development and experience working in cloud-native environments, particularly AWS. You will also have some of the following competencies;

  • Tertiary Qualification in computer science, information technology, business systems or other relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent significant practical experience.
  • Extensive experience in building Data Engineering pipeline as well as exposure to Cloud Data Platforms (Strong proficiency in Python development is essential)
  • Knowledge of cloud data systems and products and experience in delivery of cloud data projects (preferably AWS)
  • Proven experience working with data cataloging platforms, particularly Alation, to drive data governance, discoverability, and collaboration across enterprise data assets.
  • Extensive stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in Energy/Utilities or similar complex corporate environment
