The Opportunity

This is a unique leadership opportunity, where the Business Director will support spearheading Beca’s strategic growth in the Defence Market in the Australia with a particular focus on Canberra.Your primary focus will be advancing Beca’s local presence in the Defence sector, aligning with our broader strategy to expand our impact in Australia. An important secondary function of this role includes championing Beca in Canberra as the Branch Manager. This includes broad facilitation in meeting our business objectives particularly in terms of growth of the local team and supporting the Water Market strategy in Canberra. As a Business Director – Defence, you will primarily be responsible for:

  • Strategic Leadership: Reporting to the General Manager, Defence, Industrial and Advisory, drive and execute the strategic initiatives of the business line, ensuring alignment with Beca’s overarching goals and objectives.
  • Client Management: Foster and maintain relationships with key clients, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and identifying opportunities for growth and expansion.
  • Market Development: Working directly to the Defence Market Director and future Water Market Director, develop and implement business development strategies to expand market presence in the ACT, including identifying new business opportunities and securing new contracts.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial performance of the business unit, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to meet revenue and profit targets.
  • Developing our Team: Grow a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture while ensuring the development and retention of key talent.

The Secondary Function Of Canberra Branch Manager Will Entail

  • Operational Oversight: As the senior leader in Canberra, reporting to and working closely with the NSW/ACT State Manager, manage day-to-day operations of the branch to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, including overseeing project delivery, resource allocation, and quality control.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Bring the ‘Best of Beca’ to the Australian Capital Territory, and act as the primary liaison between the branch and the wider organisation, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and strategies.
  • Community Engagement: Represent Beca within the local community, enhancing the company's reputation and fostering good relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Commercial: Management/leadership of other Canberra based clients and procurement panels

You will be an advocate of our brand, our people and our clients, your engaging style is essential in this role. You’ll be keen to work on key challenges and opportunities across government, infrastructure, development, environmental, economic and cultural dimensions.

About You

A well-established background within the Defence and National Security market is required, with a preference for demonstrated experience in growing a Defence portfolio in a consulting or contracting environment with a focus of ‘above-the-line’ services. Experience of managing key client accounts in the Water Market will be highly regarded but not essential.
