ASC is Australia's submarine company. Established in 1985, ASC built Australia's Collins Class submarines, sustains the Collins Class fleet, and have been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in Australia.

About the Role:

This is a key leadership role reporting directly to the CEO and part of ASC's Executive Committee overseeing all external communications, government relations and corporate social responsibility functions. As a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive and broader Executive, you will lead the development of ASC's Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, strengthen ASC's brand and associated media presence, and manage ASC's social license and environmental, social and governance (ESG) positioning across complex government and industry landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and lead ASC's Stakeholder Engagement Strategy, including engagement with the Australian Submarine Agency, NNSG and Department of Finance
  • Lead the External Communications team, including corporate publications, media strategy and messaging
  • Oversee ASC's Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG agenda, ensuring alignment with internal values and external expectations
  • Provide strategic advice to the Executive and Board
  • Represent ASC in Canberra and other locations as required, seeding key messages and influencing national dialogue.
  • Lead three direct reports:
  • Head of Corporate Communications and Media
  • Head of Government Relations
  • Head of Corporate Social Responsibility


Key requirements:


  • Demonstrated experience in operating in politically complex environments
  • Deep understanding of the public sector, ideally within a Government Business Enterprise
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver stakeholder engagement strategies in dynamic, high-pressure settings
  • Sophisticated influencing, conditioning, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead across ambiguity, complexity and conflict
  • Exceptional internal and external relationships and networks
  • Resilience, independence and strategic foresight
