When you choose AusNet, you’ll join genuine people working together making Real. Progress

At AusNet, we’re the link between renewable energy sources and local communities, playing a key role in the clean energy transition and providing essential energy to every Victorian family.

Help us lead the way, while enriching your career with real people who encourage you to bring your best and make real impact – for your career, our communities, and Australia’s cleaner energy future.

Purposeful work with genuinely good people. That’s refreshing.

Become part of a critical team that will guide Ausnet to rapidly mature and provide outstanding strategic level technical and operational capabilities, whilst ensuring cross-business coordination and collaboration.

We are seeking a strategic Data Governance Manager to lead the development and integration of enterprise-grade data governance practices across AusNet to ensure data integrity, consistency, quality, and management. This role will drive accountability for data assets, support regulatory and operational excellence, and enable trusted data decision-making across AusNet’s regulated electricity and gas networks.

If you are considering relocating from interstate to Victoria, we can discuss relocation assistance options with you individually.

This role is based in Southbank and is part of the Group Operations team.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Design, implement, and continuously evolve a fit-for-purpose data governance framework that aligns with AusNet’s operational strategy, regulatory obligations, and business needs.
  • Define and embed clear data ownership and stewardship accountabilities across business units to drive responsibility for data quality, lineage, and usage.
  • Develop and enforce data quality standards and monitoring processes; lead initiatives to remediate and uplift the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of critical datasets.
  • Oversee metadata standards, data catalogues, and governance tools to support asset transparency, traceability, and system integration across platforms such as SAP and GIS.
  • Ensure governed datasets meet requirements for regulatory submissions, safety obligations, performance monitoring, and business intelligence reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Analytics team and operational leads to ensure governance practices enable high value use cases.
  • Promote awareness, literacy, and best practices in data governance across AusNet through stakeholder engagement, training, and change management.
  • Establish key metrics and maturity indicators to track adoption, impact, and continuous improvement of data governance practices.
  • Lead and mentor a small team, enabling professional growth through effectively managing key people-leadership responsibilities.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • Significant experience (5–10 years) in data governance, information management, or enterprise data roles.
  • Proven experience implementing or maturing data governance frameworks in complex, asset-intensive or regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated success in improving data quality and driving accountability across business units.
  • Experience with critical business systems such as SAP, GIS, and enterprise reporting platforms (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) is highly regarded.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA, DCAM) and data management principles.
  • Deep understanding of data quality, metadata, master data, and data stewardship concepts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting obligations and compliance standards in the energy sector (e.g. AER, ESV, ESC).
  • Working knowledge of enterprise data architecture, data integration, and data process principles.
  • Awareness of SAP master data structures, GIS systems, and operational data models relevant to electricity and gas networks.
