Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Family Services Practitioner to join our Family Services team based at Prahran on a part-time, ongoing basis. The Family Services Program supports families who are experiencing high levels of stress and difficulties that impact on parenting, family life and children’s well-being.

As a Senior Family Services Practitioner, you will provide intensive case management support to families who present with a range of complex issues. The role will undertake risk and needs assessments of children and families, and develop client focused Family Action Plans and Safety Plans. Working collaboratively with Child Protection, the Senior Practitioner will support families to enhance parenting capacity, family functioning and promote child safety.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a relevant Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or equivalent area.

  • Current driver’s licence valid in Victoria
  • Excellent understanding of the legislative requirements of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 (CYFA) as it effects family services particularly the “Best Interests” framework, information sharing provisions and child protection system
  • Knowledge of and extensive experience in child and family services and child protection systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of a range of theoretical approaches relevant to working with infants, children, young people and families, including but not limited to attachment theory, trauma informed practice and infant mental health
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current issues facing families, children and young people
