We require an experienced modelling and simulation practitioner to join our team, delivering a service to Defence’s most exciting project in Sydney. The project is fundamentally operations analysis which encompasses analytical studies, experimentation, wargaming, modelling and simulation, which is used to quantitatively identify and exploit opportunities for the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The role will be relied upon to identify gaps in warfighting capability, test and evaluate proposed and existing systems, and develop requirements for new systems by assessing the effectiveness of tactics within the Maritime Domain.

Our Ideal Candidate

It is required that you can demonstrate an understanding of the factors influencing Science & Technology research and development, and its relevance to the National Defence Strategy including, the ability to recognise technology opportunities that could bolster Australia’s Defence capability long term and use scientific judgement to analyse options, contribute to the design activities and contribute to decisions to prioritise research areas.

  • Modelling of unmanned systems, weapons, platforms across the five ADF domains, command and control systems, sensors, robotics systems, signal processing, real-time modelling, vision processing, computer modelling based effects of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and algorithm development.
  • Proven capability in modelling the effects of Cyber and Information Warfare within joint and multi-domain operational contexts.
  • Strong background in developing physical and mathematical models of complex defence systems, including sensors (e.g., radar and sonar), electronic warfare systems (RF and EO), and systems of systems.
  • Experience modelling the behaviour and interaction of military units—from individuals to teams and larger force groupings—for use in analytical, human-in-the-loop, and closed-loop experimentation.
  • Expertise in creating models and simulations for wargaming applications, incorporating both human-in-the-loop and automated (closed-loop) scenarios.
