About the Role

Reporting to the Tasmanian Board, the CEO leads all business operations and serves as the chief public policy advocate and representative of Master Builders Tasmania (MBT). This dynamic role demands both commercial and political acumen, providing strategic leadership while navigating the complex and sometimes competing interests of a federated industry association.

The CEO engages with government, industry, and internal stakeholders, collaborating with other member associations to influence policy in support of members and the broader construction sector. Strong leadership skills are essential to drive strategic outcomes and lead a team of industry professionals. The ability to build relationships, influence decision-makers, and manage a high-performing team will be key determinants of success.

The role is centered on leading in the best interests of MBT members, insights gained through active listening and meaningful engagement. This enables a deep understanding of member concerns, effective advocacy, and the identification of opportunities for collaborative leadership to support the wellbeing and future of Tasmania's construction industry.

The CEO is accountable for leading the commercial operations of the business during a period of significant growth, ensuring strategies are in place to maximise the value of recent capital investments and support a broader commercial service offering. This requires a deep understanding of managing growth and risk within the context of a not-for-profit, member-based organisation. The CEO will also identify and evaluate future capital investment opportunities that align with MBT's strategic objectives-such as expanding training infrastructure, extending services into regional areas, and introducing new offerings that support members and ensure long-term sustainability.

Equally important, the CEO is responsible for fostering a strong, positive workplace culture. With an engaged and capable team in place, the CEO must continue to build team cohesiveness, promote professional development, and create an environment that drives collaboration, high performance, and job satisfaction. Their leadership will be key to maintaining a thriving and resilient organisational culture.
