About the role
As a Services Officer, your primary base will be the Geelong station, but you may also need to work between Winchelsea and Tarneit based on your roster and business needs. Your key responsibilities include delivering outstanding service to V/Line customers and maintaining safety on and around the rail.
You will sell Myki and V/Net tickets, make announcements at the platform, assist passengers, and ensure the station and its facilities are clean. Additionally, during planned and unplanned disruptions, you will help coordinate bus replacements and facilitate safe, timely train departures.
This is a full-time, ongoing role with a 24/7 roster. Depending on scheduling and business needs, you may need to report to and work from various stations along the Geelong line within 80 km of your Home Depot or residence.
Key accountabilities include:
Gain a Certificate 3 in Rail Customer Operations
Communicate accurate and timely information to customers about V/Line services and other forms of public transportation
Perform Safeworking, training will be provided
Self-manage your time in-between services
Identify and report safety hazards or incidents
Take pride in, and maintain the presentation and cleanliness of the station and its facilities
Train as a reserve conductor
Ensure safety on and around the station, for customers, colleagues, and yourself
About you

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
Successful completion of Year 10 or equivalent
Ability to work independently and proactively without supervision
Ability to adapt to changing environments
Previous extensive experience in a customer service and operational environment
Strong verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills
Strong safety culture and willingness to adhere to the company values

At V/Line, safety is our priority. Successful applicants will undergo relevant pre-employment and medical checks to meet our safeworking standards. This also includes a Working with Children Check.
As a member of our Customer Operations team, you will gain a Certificate 3 in Customer Rail Operations within 4 weeks in Melbourne, in addition to 2-4 weeks of on-the-job training to set you up for success on your V/Line journey.
Whilst completing the Cert 3 and on-the-job training, you will be on $27.49 p/h. Upon successful completion of both, you will move up to $42.48 p/h, plus loadings and penalty rates, in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023.
