The Role
We are seeking a MySQL Database & Application Support Engineer to join a major enterprise infrastructure upgrade program focused on mainframe system modernisation. This role will support the deployment and operation of critical database and middleware components across a complex application ecosystem. You will work in close collaboration with engineering teams and delivery partners to ensure platform reliability, data integrity, and performance.
This is a Sydney-based role requiring on-site presence at the client location.

The Role
We are seeking a MySQL Database & Application Support Engineer to join a major enterprise infrastructure upgrade program focused on mainframe system modernisation. This role will support the deployment and operation of critical database and middleware components across a complex application ecosystem. You will work in close collaboration with engineering teams and delivery partners to ensure platform reliability, data integrity, and performance.
This is a Sydney-based role requiring on-site presence at the client location.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver L2/L3 support for MySQL databases including health checks, maintenance, backup, and restoration.
- Perform configuration updates and support continuous service improvement activities.
- Provide support across IBM middleware platforms such as WebSphere Application Server, MQ, Apache, and HCL Digital Experience.
- Contribute to incident resolution, root cause analysis, and problem management processes.
- Assist in maintaining operational documentation and contributing to knowledge transfer within the team.
- Ensure infrastructure changes adhere to enterprise standards and support application availability goals.
- 4+ years of experience in MySQL database administration in enterprise environments.
- Proven knowledge of backup/restore processes and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with IBM middleware technologies including WebSphere Application Server and MQ.
- Solid scripting and automation skills in Linux environments.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic capabilities across infrastructure and middleware layers.
- Experience working in ITIL-aligned operational environments and with ITSM tools.
- Play a key role in a strategic mainframe systems upgrade program.
- Work alongside specialists in infrastructure, middleware, and enterprise platforms.
- Gain exposure to large-scale hybrid enterprise systems and legacy-modern integration.
- Be part of a collaborative delivery team solving complex, real-world technical challenges.
