We are going through an exciting period of growth and with that we have a great opportunity for a Lead Field Engineer Primary Plant to join us!


This role will see you utilise your significant technical knowledge and experience to deliver sound technical advice for AusNet’s electricity stations assets.

With a hybrid split (Office/WFH)), this role is based in Southbank and is part of our Field Engineering, Network Management team within our Transmission line of business.


This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Provide emergency response support to field groups for network incidents and lead investigation and reporting of equipment incidents, failures and defects
  • Drive and deliver significant value through improvements in management of primary plant, including Circuit Breakers, Isolators, Transformers and other High Voltage plant and equipment, primarily in Terminal Stations
  • Provide leadership to liaise and collaborate with other teams within Network Management on a range of engineering issues and programs to determine practical business solutions for primary plant field assets
  • Provide input to, and work with others to perform condition and risk assessment of installed equipment / assist with the development of primary plant/replace/refurbish/repair work scopes and initiate and assist with developing projects
  • Collaborate with other teams to monitor, analyse and track primary plant assets and to develop contingency plans, spares strategies and policies
  • Assess operational risks associated with primary plant installations, related operations, works and contingency arrangements to minimise asset underperformance and network/customer impact
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering standards and designs, to ensure compliance with legal, technical, regulatory and safety obligations

You don’t need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or related
  • Demonstrated years of experience in the utility industry with depth and breadth of knowledge in all aspects of plant and equipment up to 500kV
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a large range of primary plant operations
  • Understand the principles of strategic asset management and knowledge of contemporary asset management systems preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and lead initiatives to successfully delivery business outcomes
  • Professional body membership: CP Eng (preferred), CIGRE if appropriate, Victoria Professional Engineers Registration
